Overview
My client is seeking a skilled and motivated Data Installation Engineer to jointheir team. The role involves working in the field to install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems, including CAT6A and fibre optic infrastructure, across a variety of environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation of structured cabling systems, including CAT6A and fibre optic cabling
- Installation, termination, and testing of copper and fibre cabling to industry standards
- Fitting and terminating patch panels, data modules, and fibre panels
- Installation and commissioning of associated equipment, including cabinets, containment, and network hardware
- Installation and basic setup of CCTV systems where required
- Installation and support of telecommunications systems and infrastructure
- Installation and mounting of Wi-Fi access points (APs) and associated cabling
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, plans, and schematics
- Ensuring all work is completed to a high standard and in line with relevant regulations and best practices
- Carrying out testing using appropriate equipment and providing accurate documentation of results
- Working on-site in a professional manner, often within live environments such as schools, commercial buildings, and secure sites
- Maintaining health and safety standards at all times
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in structured cabling installations (CAT5e/CAT6/CAT6A and fibre)
- Experience installing and supporting telecommunications systems
- Experience installing Wi-Fi access points (APs) and associated infrastructure
- Experience terminating, testing, and splicing fibre optic cables (essential)
- Familiarity with patch panels, modules, and network infrastructure
- Experience with CCTV installation is advantageous
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
Qualifications (Desirable)
- ECS/CSCS Card
- IPAF or PASMA certification
- Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Excel, Panduit, etc.)
Additional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel and work on various sites
- Ability to obtain DBS clearance (required for work in education settings)
- Eligibility to obtain security clearance (e.g., NPPV3) is advantageous but not essential
